What is an Initial Physiotherapy Assessment?
An Initial Physiotherapy Assessment is a comprehensive diagnostic session designed to evaluate your condition, understand the cause of your pain or limitation, and build a personalized treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.
This session is not just about identifying the problem—it’s about understanding your body, your goals, and how we can help you move better and live without pain.
Whether you’re recovering from an injury, struggling with joint pain, or simply feeling restricted in movement, this is where the right care begins.
What Happens During the 30-Minute Session?
Your assessment is conducted by a fully qualified, HCPC and CSP-registered physiotherapist in a private, professional setting.
🔹 Step 1: Consultation
We take a detailed medical and lifestyle history to understand the background of your condition—any injuries, surgeries, daily habits, or underlying health issues.
🔹 Step 2: Physical Examination
We assess:
Joint range of motion
Muscle strength and tone
Posture and alignment
Gait and movement patterns
Functional limitations
Pain triggers
🔹 Step 3: Diagnosis & Goal Setting
You’ll receive a preliminary diagnosis, with a clear explanation of what’s happening, why it may be occurring, and how physiotherapy can help.
🔹 Step 4: Custom Treatment Plan
We’ll create a personalized treatment roadmap outlining the therapies you’ll receive, the frequency of sessions, and expected recovery milestones.

- Neck and back pain caused by muscular imbalances, herniated discs, poor posture, or spinal dysfunction.
- Pelvic floor dysfunction, including bladder leakage, post-childbirth recovery, and pelvic pain.
- Reduced mobility and strength due to stroke, spinal cord injury, or neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis.
- Cancer-related fatigue and physical limitations, such as swelling, joint stiffness, and muscle weakness during or after treatment.
- Sports injuries like sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis, or overuse injuries that affect your ability to move and train.
- Postural issues from desk jobs or prolonged sitting, leading to stiffness, rounded shoulders, and lower back pain.
- Post-surgical rehabilitation, such as after a knee replacement, ACL reconstruction, or shoulder surgery.
💡 Why Is the Assessment So Important?
Because every body is different. A one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work in physiotherapy.
This assessment:
Helps avoid misdiagnosis or wasted treatment
Targets the root cause, not just the symptoms
Gives you a structured, effective path forward
Allows us to track progress against clear, meaningful goals
