What Is This Service?
This 20-minute Focused Shockwave Therapy – Single Area session targets one specific musculoskeletal region (such as the shoulder, heel, elbow, or knee) using medical-grade shockwave technology. It’s designed for patients suffering from localized, chronic, or non-healing pain that hasn’t responded to physiotherapy or medication.
At UK Pain Clinic, we use focused (not radial) shockwave devices to penetrate deep into the damaged tissue, delivering high-energy sound waves that stimulate healing from the inside out.
It’s an ideal choice for patients who want to avoid painkillers, steroids, or surgery — and who are looking for an evidence-based, regenerative therapy that gets results.
What Does a Single Area Mean?
This treatment focuses on one defined anatomical region, such as:
Heel (e.g. plantar fasciitis)
Shoulder (e.g. rotator cuff tendinopathy)
Elbow (e.g. tennis or golfer’s elbow)
Knee (e.g. patellar tendonitis)
Hip (e.g. trochanteric bursitis)
Achilles tendon or calf
Hamstring or adductor region
If you have more than one painful area, we recommend our Multi-Area Focused Shockwave Treatment, which is tailored for multiple conditions in the same visit.
A physiotherapist will ask you about your current level of activity and any particular problems you’re having. They will also examine your joints to assess your muscle strength and the range of movement in your joints. Exercises and activities to meet your individual needs.

What Happens During This 20-Minute Session?
1. Quick Assessment & Localization
Your therapist will briefly reassess the pain site, identify the treatment zone, and check your progress from previous visits (if applicable).
2. Focused Shockwave Delivery
The clinician applies a special gel to the skin and uses a precision probe to deliver controlled acoustic pulses to the target tissue. Each pulse penetrates deeply to stimulate blood flow, break down scar tissue, and activate repair cells.
You may feel mild tapping, pressure, or a sharp vibration — but it’s quick and very tolerable.
3. Immediate Aftercare Advice
You’ll be given personalised recovery guidance:
What activities to avoid
Whether to apply ice or heat
Movement recommendations
Whether to combine the session with physio or rehab
There is no downtime — most patients resume normal activity the same day.
Who Is This Right For?
This session is ideal if you have pain focused in one region and want:
To avoid cortisone injections or surgery
To accelerate recovery from a sports injury
A solution for chronic tendon or ligament pain
To reduce dependence on painkillers or anti-inflammatories
To treat a condition that has stopped improving with standard physio

Treatment Plan & Results
Most patients need 3–6 sessions for full benefit
Sessions are spaced 5–10 days apart
Many report reduced pain after just 1–2 treatments, with continued healing weeks after the final session
Got questions? We’ve answered some of the most common concerns about physiotherapy treatments, sessions, and what to expect.
If your pain is isolated to one tendon or muscle area and has lasted more than 6 weeks, shockwave may be ideal. We’ll assess before starting.
You might feel mild discomfort or pulsing, but it’s brief and well-tolerated. We can adjust the intensity if needed.
Sometimes. We may recommend combining with physio, rehab exercises, or orthotics for lasting improvement.
Yes, but we advise waiting at least 4–6 weeks after a steroid injection. Let us know your history during assessment.
You’ll need our multi-area session for that, as this one is focused on a single zone.
